Statins Weird Side Effects (Skin, Hormonal, Psychiatric) & Why They Occur
Statins (such as Atorvastatin, Lovastatin, Simvastatin, Rosuvastatin) are medications used to reduce or lower cholesterol levels by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is involved in endogenous synthesis of cholesterol. However, statins can cause a wide variety of side effects, including myopathy, hepatitis, headache and many other more “weird” or “atypical” side effects, including dermatological, endocrinological, and psychiatric adverse effects, which we discuss in this lesson.
