Eighty-second video. Time for something nostalgic and completely different -- this is the background music for the first stage of Kirby's Block Ball for Game Boy.
Kirby's Block Ball is essentially the game Breakout made into an adventure with new gimmicks and mechanics. The spherical Kirby acts as the ball, and points are earned by breaking bricks, completing bonus stages, and having lives at the end of a stage. Each stage is arranged into five sub-stages culminating with a boss. Unlike most Kirby games, the first boss is not Whispy Woods but instead a giant mushroom-looking Cappa.
I love the bright, upbeat soundtrack for these stages! Kirby is a series whose level music has achieved a sort of classicism -- level music is prone to be repeated, developed, and enhanced throughout the series. However, this soundtrack is unusual in that it doesn't really do that -- almost all of these themes are brand new and don't recur in future Kirby games. Nevertheless, there are some great, happy Game Boy tunes here that I feel are underappreciated. Hope you enjoy!
