Abstract: Democracy is about making decisions that will benefit the people. This is not always the case with current political systems that are based on elections, even though they are considered democratic. On the other hand, citizens' assemblies with a randomly selected and representative group of people allow making well-thought-out decisions that are not affected by thinking in terms of electoral campaigns. Assembly members are presented with a problem, and they may focus on looking for the best possible solutions. Citizens' assemblies can be organised at the city or national level as a form of public consultations. However, they can also make legally binding decisions and become a basis for whole new political systems.
