Health professionals have an obligation to communicate a diagnosis honestly, even if it is unpleasant and life-threatening. The human-induced Planetary Health Crisis is already causing great suffering that is unfairly distributed globally and will increase dramatically in the future.
The climate crisis is first and foremost a health crisis. It is therefore important to make the consequences of climate change for our well-being understandable and to stand up for planetary health. Forms of action of peaceful civil resistance have historically been decisive in improving the quality of life worldwide.
Maria-Inti Metzendorf, Medical Information Scientist at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, talks about the health impacts of the climate and ecological crisis, and presents why she and other people in the health sector are also involved as activists.
Lea Bonasera is writing her doctoral thesis in political science on civil disobedience. She is a co-founder of the group "Last Generation", which has used hunger strikes and motorway blockades as peaceful forms of direct action and civil disobedience. Lea explains why civil disobedience is so urgently needed now and how to use it effectively.
Scientists:inside see the immense gap between knowledge about the planetary crisis and political action (or inaction). When we realise that there is a fire, we have a responsibility to make everyone aware of the danger so that we can move to safety.
For us at Scientist Rebellion, the days of exclusively knowledge-mediating science communication and policy advice are over. This decade is the most important in human history. We must take a clear position now: Climate revolution or we lose everything!
