From 25th to 28th March 2021 we, scientists all around the world, have taken action of rebellion. Scientist Rebellion – Lausanne is part of the worldwide Scientist Rebellion (SR) movement, which brings together scientific communities from all around the world. SR calls for a climate revolution based on the urgency of the climate crisis.
We want to help scientists to take action by highlighting the scientific evidence of this crisis. Thus, we encourage scientists, generally seen as trustworthy, to spread this evidence. For several decades we wrote papers and reports, spoke with politicians and shareholders about the danger of destroying ecosystems. However, all these conventional methods failed to change our economics and politics. The destruction of our planetary ecosystem, our home, never ceases to increase and we are now at the edge of the collapse of human civilization.
Therefore, SR sees the use of nonviolent civil disobedience as legitimate and necessary. As scientists, we call our colleagues to leave their ivory tower. Writing about the causes and solution of the ecological crisis is no longer sufficient. We need to take action now.
