🚨 SPOILER WARNING 🚨 What's up Geekly Goods fam! 👀 According to Spider-Man: Brand New Day writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Jean Grey technically did not kill anyone in the film, at least not directly.
Sommers told The Hollywood Reporter, "I think technically, she's not responsible for any deaths. But you come away with the impression, certainly, that she's caused a lot of destruction in mayhem. Even if you're going to have a villain who really is redeemed at the end or goes through a transformation, you have to start them off in a place where they feel formidable." This clarification comes as fans continue debating a sequence where a bystander appears to get hit by a bus while Jean is jumping between people's bodies during her search for her sister Sara.
There's definitely been some controversy online about how Jean's arc was handled, especially given how much destruction and emotional damage she causes throughout the film, from breaking Peter's heart while wearing MJ's face to indirectly triggering Bruce Banner's transformation into the Hulk. That said, I really loved what they did with Jean Grey in this movie. Giving her genuine menace and moral ambiguity before her eventual redemption felt like such a strong way to introduce the MCU's first X-Man.
