It turns out renewables were not to blame for the catastrophic blackout in Spain in April 2025.
We take a look at the Spanish situation, and explore challenges and solutions to the growing renewable energy grid with Michael Liebreich, energy expert. consultant and founder of Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
One solution not discussed much by either renewables advocates or conventional utilities is "Flexible Gas."
Michael explains how specially designed gas plants could generate only 4% of over all electricity, and provide all of the grid services needed to maintain, a reliable and affordable grid.
Oh and this is how you can get through the annual "Dunkelflaute" as the Germans say, those winter doldrums when there is little sunshine and low to no winds for up to weeks at a time.
