It's been described as a "ticking time bomb." With 250 million EVs expected on the roads by 2030, and hundreds of thousands of new solar, wind and battery projects underway around the world our outdated 20th Century Grid needs to be ready for this flash mob of distributed energy resources to survive and thrive.
This was the impetus for the Energy Innovation Challenge in Alberta being run by Decentralised Energy Canada (DEC) and the City of Medicine Hat.
The "Hat" as it's known is the perfect place to pilot new software, AI, and smart grid technologies since it is the largest microgrid in Canada with an intertie to the greater Alberta grid. We talk to Anouk Kendall from DEC and Rochelle Pancoast and Grayson Mauch of the City of Medicine Hat about the challenge and why these solutions will be piloted in their City.
