Cultivating a sourdough starter is a pretty charming process, but it can be hard to get started. Because starters rely on wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria, there can be a lot of variation and some issues in getting it up and running. A common kind of sourdough starter problem is having harmful bacteria or other microorganisms take over, since the conditions of a starter can condone the growth of these unwanted guests.
In this video on sourdough starters, we’re going to show you how to make a sourdough starter correctly and how to prevent these kinds of problems from happening. We make 3 different kinds of starters here: one with just flour and water, one with yogurt, and finally one with honey-water.
