Shooting vlogs requires a much different setup than I'd normally use for filming videos on my Sony a6500 or any camera. In almost any other case, I would shoot video in full manual mode. Not the case for vlogging.
Vlogging usually means moving fast through very different environments. Your focus will change, the lighting will change, the audio will change, just about every thing in front of the camera will constantly change and half the time you won't even be behind the camera to make the necessary adjustments. So this is a great use case for auto settings. Fortunately the a6500 does great at handling most of the functions you'll need it to do when vlogging. Here's how I set mine up:
• 1080p 24fps (use 60fps for slow mo) - file size is much smaller and easier to edit fast.
• Auto White Balance - you'll be changing lighting conditions too many times to worry about WB
• Movie mode set to Shutter Priority - This allows you to choose a constant shutter while letting the camera choose the appropriate aperture.
• Shutter: 1/50 - 1/125 - personal choice. Have fun but set it and leave it.
• ISO: Auto
• Image stabilization: On
• PP5 - picture profile. This is what I used but experiment for the one that works best for you. I still haven't decided which I like best.
• Auto-focus: Continuous
• Focus mode: Wide
• Exposure compensation: -1.3 - I find this helps the auto ISO to better expose for skin. Probably change this if shooting in low-light.
• Audio level: 15 with Rode VideoMic Pro set to: 0
