Testing out the Sony a6500 to Ikan vk7i monitor with clean hdmi output. Shot in 4K. ► All gear linked below*.
I made the switch! Well sort of. I bought the Sony a6500 but I don't have a Sony lens. Because I still have plenty of Canon EF glass, I also bought the Sigma MC-11 converter and I'm using it in this video with the Canon 40mm 2.8 lens.
On my Canon 60D I could not use my Ikan monitor to its fullest because the 60D did not send its full resolution or even an HD image and the HDMI was also not clean, in other words, the image on the monitor contained all the info you see on the LCD.
Now with my Sony a6500, I get only the image and full HD output so I can use it to accurately monitor focus as well as color. I haven't however, figured out how to actually make the HDMI not clean. I also need to view the LCD info but haven't found that option in the deep Sony menus, hopefully it exists.
This is my first 4K video and while it's mostly just me in front of the camera, it gave me a great first look at the image which looks fantastic and also taught me some things about editing in 4K. Essentially, on my six-year-old iMac, I need to use proxies in Premiere Pro to be able to edit. Once I make those, it works wonderfully.
I also used the Rode VideoMic pro with the audio levels on the Sony set to 15.
