A solo overnight, cold camp style using fire. I have no cook stove, so I need fire. Part 2 starts after I arrive at the black spruce swamp, sheltered from most of the intense winds. Standing dead firewood is abundant and I harvest it with axe and saw. I hang the pots from a horizontal bar. My sleeping shelter is a Mountain Hardware “Kiva” tarp tent. I have to rig it well away from the fire to prevent spark hole melt-through. Wearing the full length parka around the fire is essential for cutting the wind and shedding melting snow around the fire, keeping me dry.
