I titled this "Classic Boreal Landscape", because it shows a typical day of portaging, paddling, camping and swimming in classic Boreal Shield country: Small clear clean lakes, rock, jack pine, black spruce, birch and poplar, lots of easy firewood, and some mucky swamps too – the usual. I make my usual chimney rock fire, and show some easy and safe cutting axe technique. I spend some time showing the blowdown and mentioning that humans are part of this back country landscape, keeping the trails and campsites open with saws and axes. The purist "no-trace" concept does not work here. Instead we keep it very clean, leave firewood for the next traveler, and travel and tread lightly and respectfully, conserving campsite beauty. I had good sunny weather so the scenery was photogenic.
