The infinite energy of an unstoppable force can always be quite persuasive. You couple that with a person's inner 'grit' to persevere towards long-term goals & the duet is unrelenting; that is what I imagine when I think of vocalist & front man, John Slofkoski,...because once AGAIN he has reared his malevolent head in the Texas metal scene only this time in a FAR more heinous way. I first crossed paths with John back in 2013 when he led a Corpus Christi based outfit called The Marker Effect; and even at that time I could recognize the drive he had to make his presence known by producing unprecedented brutality. Now, in 2022 with a leaner, meaner & more focused approach John has resurfaced on my radar via his NEW band, Snake Father! The band's latest 6-song EP, 'The Concept of Torture' (released in April) crossed my desk & what an impression it made. While deathcore in its most common form can be a simplistic & redundant genre, I found Snake Father's approach to be beautifully complex,...offering listeners DEEP sonic landscapes strewn with a range of hideous vocals telling an array of HORRIFIC stories. I was hooked quickly & so have fans ALL over the Lone Star state. SO, in between the band's relentless touring schedule, I wanted to take the opportunity to sit down with John & his diverse crew to get at the heart of what Snake Father is & what is to come. Thus, on Saturday, September 24th, 2022, the band made its way over to the RMW Studio for one hellishly FUN night, which also turned out to be full of vulnerable stories, subtle agendas & brutally honest truths. In the interview below you will see us talk about the following: the formation & vision of SF, the band's unique sound, lyrical themes from TCOT, the band's line-up, DOOM, the recording process, touring & tour stories, 'keeping the dream alive', the intensity of their videos & much more!
