As we approach mid-2025 I feel like its a glorious time for heavy music across the globe; never before have the markets been more open, the opportunities for bands more robust & the walls that once separated genres more obsolete. Within that same vein we have also witnessed the strong return of particular genres,...most notably nu-metal. And while, the genre may have initially met with resistance from 'ol' school' heads, it was enormously popular with young fans & produced MANY GREAT bands (& records) that have withstood the test of time; some of my favorites include, Spineshank , Snot, Nonpoint, Deftones, Seether & Coal Chamber to name a choice few. SO, when I began to receive tracks from the newly formed SA band, Ritual Complex back in 2023 I knew that my respect for the genre's return also struck a chord with musicians in our local scene. The band's first single, 'See This Through' embodies heavy, buzzsaw guitars, backend melodies AND brutal groove; but what makes RC a complete standout are the alt-rock choruses coupled with the enormous roar of newcomer, vocalist, Jacob Ruiz. It is his attack that continues to give songs like, 'The Deal' & 'Watch Me Burn' the hard hitting structure that stays with listeners. I have become a BIG fan with every song the band sends my way, because these tracks ALSO sound GREAT on my Marshall,....so I wasn't totally shocked to hear that they were produced/engineered by mastermind, Mr. Fernando Lemus out at FL Recordings. I knew I wanted to share this band with our extended RMW Familia & with 2025 now upon us & NEW music on the way I knew it was just the right time to get the band in front of our cameras. On April 12th, 2025, I took the opportunity to invite the band over to relish in our brotherhood, have some drinks & talk ALL about it. In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: the formation/evolution of the band, their genre, lyrical content, recording with FL, the progression of their sound, their marketing strategy (& social media), playing shows, videos & MUCH MORE! I want to THANK the James, Eric, Jake & Sonny for throwing down with the RMW Crew & making the MOST of our time together.
