I often ponder how complex like has become; with the advent of the internet, social media, AI & even with how we each manage time. We are, not only info-saturated, but are called upon to wear several hats; some of which may be legitimate to prosper in every day societal life, but many others for the sheer need (or perceived need) to feel relevant. These truths have undoubtedly transcended into the music industry, several Texas metal scenes & ultimately to musicians everywhere. 'Back in the day' the life of a metal musician was FAR simpler than it is today: practice, jam, write & perform (oh yeah & party). Many would argue the simplicity was a glorious time; now musicians must be musical afficionados, recording engineers, content creators & online public personalities. Regardless, its obvious that those days are FAR behind us now & only those musicians who can/have adapted OR were BORN into this new era can find the avenue by which to succeed. And with every passing year in the 2020's it's only becoming clearer that only the savvy shall survive. One of these NEW breed of bands that I became quite fond of this past year that, not only EMBODIES the present era, but ALSO shines BRIGHTLY musically with their unique delivery, style & approach is San Antonio's own, Mass of Amara! I first came to know about the band back in 2023 & in early 2024 when their as of yet unreleased 2nd EP, 'Through The Ether' crossed my desk; And, after deeply consuming it was both elated & giddy. Elated because the SA scene is continuing to birth the BEST in Texas metal (keeping our heritage & legacy alive) AND giddy because I quickly became a fan of the bands dark, down-tuned, progressive transmission. It spoke to the many levels of what I love about heavy music: heavy growls & crushing riffs coupled with serene guitar interludes, clean melodic vocal & a deep dimension that only TRUE guitar technicians can attain. I quickly knew I wanted to share with the extended RMW Familia about this AMAZING band! SO, on October 11th, 2024, I took the liberty of having MOA here in the RMW Studio for an intimate chat. In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: the formation of the band, early recordings, their vision (& visual representation), writing for TTE, guitars, lyrical themes, their approach to social media, playing live, videos & MUCH more!
