As music fans, its easy to focus ALL our attention on the musicians & artists who we pay to see perform every weekend. However, behind the scenes & in every event we attend lies the ever present promoter working tirelessly to assure the venue is accommodating, that bands get paid & that the fans are safe & have a splendid time. Throughout the years, I have known many of these individuals; some (aside from the business components of their work) 'got it' & ALSO tried diligently to do 'right' by the SA scene by treating people fairly OR by properly promoting (ALL involved) OR simply, by inclusion & goodwill. Unfortunately, that mantra is not always commonplace, but one man & his company lived inherently by it & it made for AMAZING events & memories. I've known Julian Cruz of JC Productions since 2010 after attending one of his shows & ALL the aforementioned I slowly began to realize, as he always welcomed the RMW Crew & not only allowed us to do our work, but encouraged us to partake at every opportunity. It was a breath of fresh air at a time when the scene had become stagnant & astringent. As a friend, JC confided in me this past year that he was planning to retire after 20+ years & to say I felt compelled to give back to the man in the BEST way I know how would be an understatement. SO, on December 7th, 2024, JC came to visit the RMW Studio to discuss his history in its entirety. In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: his upbringing in SA, how he got into playing music (& his early bands), how he got into promoting shows (& his goals for it), the upcoming 20th LOCAL DISTURBANCE, his upcoming musical recordings, the fallout with Chankla & MUCH MORE!
