I've often referenced the LONG history of metal musicianship in San Antonio which has produced (& continues to produce) AMAZING bands & music from ALL genres of the spectrum. However, when you dig a bit deeper what we are remiss to mention is how 'generational' our scene is. I often hear from musicians I interview how fathers OR older brothers were metal fans & further, even musicians OR promoters in the scene; AND, yes, many of these predecessors were ALSO viewers of RMW during the public access days. That love & passion is inherently passed down (or across) & subconsciously absorbed by kids & early teens until their respective fire for metal comes fully into fruition. Such is the story of local promoter & black metal frontman, Randy Cadena! I have known about Randy for many years now, as the owner of local promotion, Strike Down Entertainment & have attended many of the brutal shows he's put together over the years; but as of 2024 the man has come further onto my radar as he NOW fronts a highly potent black metal outfit called Fluxus Mortis . Fluxus released an impactful (& Satanic) 5-song EP entitled, 'When Pleasure Becomes Torture' late in 2024 with its lead single, 'Blasphemy Sex Magic' raising eyebrows & making the rounds in the local underground. Coupled with performances, which would make any extreme fan applaud with black metal bravado, corpse paint & bible desecration, Fluxus have proved themselves to be loyalists to both the art & craft. SO, on March 28th, 2026, I took the opportunity to invite Randy over to the RMW Studio to discuss it ALL! In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: how he got into metal music, his early ambitions as a vocalist, why he started promoting shows (& how Strikedown is broadening its scope), his return from retirement, his inspiration to start Fluxus (& how the band has evolved), an upcoming EP & conceptual record, video work & MUCH more!
