I’ve ALWAYS had an endearing place for the genre of death metal with its fast rhythms, eerie growls, ominous overtones & its defining complexity; and, since its early beginnings in the mid 80’s fans have seen the genre evolve in each of those extremities. One band that with it’s Egyptian mythology captivated a devout audience was South Carolina’s NILE; and a huge part of the band’s early success was guitarist/vocalist, Dallas Toler-Wade who matched founder, Karl Sanders, in intensity, devotion (to the genre) & musicality. SO, when Dallas formed his solo band, NARCOTIC WASTELAND, in 2011 (prior to his departure from Nile in 2016) it was no surprise with many fans waiting to see what the man would deliver; and, with 2014’s self-titled debut, 2017’s full-length, ‘Delirium Tremens’ & a string of singles to include, ‘Mortality & the Wasp’, ‘Sex Lies & DNA’ & 2024’s ‘Barbarian’, Dallas has proven that Narcotic Wasteland is not only a band that has something significant to offer the genre, but a band to reckon with. The band recently came through San Antonio as part of the ‘Praise The Beast’ North American Tour (with Belphegor, Incantation & Hate) on March 2nd, 2026, so the RMW Crew took the opportunity to catch up with the man & get the latest. In the interview below you see us discuss the following: the development of their sound, the evolution of the band, his rig/guitars, playing Nile songs, the heyday of 90’s death metal, the challenges of touring, his implementation of social media & how true crime motivates him.
