Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano in northwestern Wyoming, USA.
Slot Geyser is a moderately-small, fountain-type geyser in the Geyser Hill Group of Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. Its irregularly-shaped basin is about 4 meters across and has a less-than-one-meter sized, off-center vent on the eastern side of the basin. Slot Geyser is often dormant, but does have active seasons with frequent eruptions - this most recently occurred in 2014 and fall 2018. Starting in December 2024, Slot Geyser started an active phase and has been reported having eruptions every month of 2025 so far. On 2 August 2025, when these video clips were taken, Slot Geyser had intervals (= eruption start to eruption start) of 36 to 44 minutes and durations of about 4 minutes.
Just before each Slot eruption, the basin fills with water. Eruptions consist of intermittent, low to moderate-sized, weak to vigorous, sideways splashing toward the west. After the eruption, the water drains from the basin. Slot's specific eruption behavior has varied over the years.
