Terra Cotta A Geyser (2025)
Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano in northwestern Wyoming, USA.
The Terra Cotta Geysers are in the Castle Group of Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin. They are a cluster of small geysers and hot springs on the southern banks of the Firehole River, just west of Dungeon Geyser and Slag Cone & just southwest of Deleted Teakettle Geyser. Near the center of the cluster is a vent surrounded by a grayish, slightly raised, undulating rim of pustulose to irregularly-surfaced geyserite - this is Terra Cotta A Geyser, the most active feature in the cluster. Proceeding counter-clockwise from Terra Cotta A Geyser are vents called Terra Cotta B Geyser (also known as Dishpan Spring), Terra Cotta C Geyser (also known as Washtub Spring), Terra Cotta D Geyser, Terra Cotta E Geyser, and Terra Cotta F Geyser. Other designated vents include Terra Cotta N, in the low vegetation just southeast of the main cluster, and Terra Cotta O, a series of small vents at the river’s edge.
