Scientists at the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life are working to answer that question by tracking where these young sharks go, when they arrive and leave, and how they use the Harbor throughout the season. That information helps us better understand this important habitat—and how to protect it in one of the busiest urban waterways in the country.
To follow their movements, researchers attach small electronic tags—about the size of an AA battery—to the sharks. These tags can detect the sharks' movements not only throughout Boston Harbor, but also along the entire East Coast for the next 5–7 years, revealing where they travel long after they leave Boston!
