In May of this year, Dr. Ryan Knotek, a researcher in the Aquarium's Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life, teamed up with Florida charter captains to tag and study bull sharks.š¦
In just four days, the team tagged eight sharks with cutting-edge satellite tags that monitored the animals' movements for a month. This study will provide insights into the survival of these sharks, and, once the project concludes, the collected data will help guide future management decisions for bull sharks.
The key to this work: the close collaboration with charter captains. Their help and expertise ensure this study and its findings accurately reflect the fishery. This project is currently ongoing, and some captains are now tagging sharks independently!
