In this review, Rafael reviews the Seiko reference SRPD77, a sports/diving style from the recently introduced 5 Sports collection. NOTE: It was difficult to capture the tone of the bezel on video. The Seiko 5 Sports SRPE77 is part of the "Suits" subcollection and is marked by a striking ice blue dia, blue bezel, and Milanese bracelet.
00:37 First Look
On the wrist, the SRPE77 sits pretty tall, however, it is not oversized by any means. At a first glance, it looks quite elegant with the flashy mesh bracelet and reflective ice blue dial.
01:25 Case Dimensions & Steel Surface Finishes
The stainless steel case dimensions of the SRPE77 are as follows:
- Case size: 42.5mm
- Case thickness: 13.4mm
- Lug-to-lug: 46mm
- Strap size: 22mm (between the lugs)
Naturally, this SRPE77 has the traditional Seiko Diver case profile with crown & crown guards at 4 o'clock. You can see that the steel case has a brushed/satin finish on its top side and a high-polish finish throughout the case flanks and case back.
02:51 Diver's Bezel
This being a dive watch, the bezel is undirectional and has a textured outer perimeter to improve grip. Additionally, it has a dark blue insert that mimics the "sapphire" insert of popular luxury dive watches. This is unlikely to be actual sapphire, it may be a simple plastic or even Hardlex like the crystal, nevertheless it adds depth to the bezel and face of the watch, especially when seen up close.
The diver's scale on the bezel is silver in color to contrast with the blue background and provide great contrast. It also possesses a full ring of markings whereas these Seiko Divers often only mark individual minutes from 0-20.
Protecting the face of the watch is a scratch-resistant and shatter-proof Seiko Hardlex crystal.
04:20 Ice Blue Dial (Made in Japan)
While the dial of this SRPE77 has a printing indicating "Made in Japan", this model does not have a corresponding reference number. Indeed, most Made In Japan models within the Seiko 5 Sports collection have a reference number that looks like SBSAXXX i.e. SBSA001.
05:26 Stainless Steel Milanese Band
The mesh or sharkskin style bracelet on this Seiko diver is quite fluid and comfortable on the wrist. In my experience, it didn't pinch any hairs even considering my hairy wrist. Within the Seiko 5 Sports collection, this is certainly one of my favorite and it's unique to the Suits subfamily.
06:50 Caseback & Seiko 4R36 Movement
Through the new crystal caseback we can see the Seiko 4R36 automatic movement that powers this SRPE77. The material of the see-through caseback is not advertised, though it is imprinted with "Made in Japan" like the dial.
4R36 Movement Specs:
- 41 hour power reserve
- Self-winding/Automatic
- Can be wound through crown
- Hacking seconds/Stop seconds
- +45/-35 seconds/day accuracy
Due to the non-screw-down crown, this SRPE77 is only rated to 100m of depth which I found to be more than sufficient for my purposes. Even though many online believe this is not enough for the watch to be used in the pool or ocean, Seiko stands behind this rating.

The day disc of this SRPE77 has both English and Spanish as the languages. Additionally, Saturday is in blue and Sunday is in red for both languages.
