Back in May of this year I was poking around on Instagram one afternoon and saw that Greenwaste of San Jose had brand new rear loaders in the final stages of production before being added to the fleet. While Mack LR Leaches and New Ways are definitely cool new additions in my book, everyone knows I'm a sucker for the classics. I knew that the arrival of these new trucks meant that the retirement for the fleet's last Volvo/ Heil Formula 5000 was drawing near. Not wanting to risk never being able to film it (being that it has been on my list for a while now), I insanely woke up at 2:30am that next Friday morning to drive up to San Jose purely on a gamble that this truck would leave the yard that day. I knew the odds were high that one truck had to be broken down considering the pure size of the fleet, and luckily enough this truck was one of the last to leave the yard during the launch that morning. I followed it across the city to the southern most corner where I was able to get plenty of footage of it plus the accompanying tractor doing green waste piles in a nice neighborhood. Despite it being the spring time, the piles were significantly smaller than I had expected, but nonetheless I'm decently happy with how the footage turned out.
Sadly, this is probably the last footage of this classic truck running in the streets of San Jose... the fact it lasted until 2021 is pretty cool. Truck 113 also doesn't have a full video on Youtube as far as I know, so here is the first of two parts! My last video of San Jose's Greenwaste Collection did really well on my channel, so my hope is this one will perform well too!
