Every month it becomes harder and harder to find Volvos, WhiteGMC's and old Peterbilts outfitted with Amrep ASLs down here in Southern California. Among the very few haulers that haven't yet modernized their fleets completely are Burrtec and EJ Harrison in particular, both of which run a number of classic Amreps riding atop old Xpeditor and Peterbilt chassis'.
I have made it my mission to document a good number of these trucks before they are gone, especially at EJ Harrison, a hauler out of Ventura County CA. I would say their Volvos and WhiteGMCs (diesel and LNG converted) have about a year or so left in them max, as there is a clear difference in the engine speed and revving now as compared to 4 or 5 years ago when they showed much more life.
As of now it is not clear whether or not Harrison Industries will be receiving new trucks soon, as they have a history of being slow to replace older units. They only have 2 CNG Peterbilt Octos, the newest ASLs in their fleet, but that could soon change as they did demo an N3 over the summer and seemed to like it.
The trucks featured in Part 1 are:
249 - ex-LA Peterbilt 320
205 - diesel Volvo WX-64 Amrep
237 - LNG Volvo/WhiteGMC WX-64
202 - diesel Volvo WX-64
230 - diesel Sterling Condor
Other of EJ's trucks such as diesel and LNG WhiteGMCs and other Ex-LA peterbilts will likely be featured in parts 2, 3, and possibly 4 of this series. Big thanks to GarbageTruckSPSL8 for his help with routes.
