As many probably know already, Atascadero has had several Volvo Wittke's filter in and out of the yard throughout the years. Back in April when they had 3 running regularly (videos of that: youtube.com/watch?v=Fg83izm1pGg&t=449s, youtube.com/watch?v=RAXq-3Qw8wQ&t=41s) I thought they would easily be running like that for quite a while longer as plans for new front loaders were pretty tentative and seemingly unlikely to even happen. However that changed when about 3 weeks ago they got 2 brand new Peterbilt 520 Amrep FLs. Gotta say they do look pretty sharp, especially with the new logo, a fresh coat of paint, and all the LED lights. Even cooler is the fact these are dual axle which I think is pretty uncommon with new WM Front Loaders at least in California.
With that, here is James in his brand new truck, 215692, which replaced his old regular Volvo Wittke 203591. Not surprisingly, some of his complaints are that this truck lacks a lot of power, the engine cuts off when the RPM is revved to high, both of which make the truck slower and less efficient. Despite all the new technology, more comfortable interior, and functioning AC, it seemed like he would rather be driving the Volvos at the end of the day. Luckily, he said they have kept 203591 around as a spare that will be used when one of these are down, and they have also kept 206301, which I saw driving to the yard on the freeway later that morning.
