What’s the difference?
“If I can just get a form right, I believe I will stop being injured.”
I see plenty of injured runners who believe this.
If they can just “fix” running form, all the issues will go away.
That is actually what the runner above initially believed too.
He just wanted to be able to run a few miles without feeling that nagging hip pain (was diagnosed with left hip labral tear)
Now, he can run 100 mile races.
While we eventually prioritized building up his running, we actually first focused on the basics.
Even though he had pain with running, it also affected how he slept and how he sat.
By creating a strong foundation, this was a big step in getting him to train injury free, eventually leading to completion of the 100 miler.
The point here is people overestimate the impact of run technique that they spend less time on other things that matter more.
Don't skip the basics.
