Sicilian is a Romance language spoken primarily on Sicily and nearby islands. It is part of the Extreme Southern Italian language group and is distinct enough from Standard Italian to be considered a separate language. Recognized as a minority language by UNESCO and referred to as a language by the Sicilian Region, Sicilian has the oldest literary tradition among Italo-Romance languages. It is spoken by most Sicilians and by emigrant communities worldwide.
Corsican is a Romance language spoken on the island of Corsica, France, and northern Sardinia, Italy. It is part of the Italo-Dalmatian dialect continuum and is closely related to the Tuscan dialects, including Florentine-based standard Italian. Although classified as a regional language in France, scholars debate whether Corsican is more closely related to Centro-Southern Italian dialects or Tuscan varieties.
