This spring, our southern rockhopper penguins were hard at work building their nests! 🥚🐧
In the wild, penguins build their nests out of rocks, pebbles, sticks, and mud. During nesting season (April to June), our trainers encourage the penguins' natural nest-building instincts by placing ice chips and hose pieces around the exhibit for the penguins to collect! As you can see, they are very eager to create the *perfect* nest with their nesting materials for potential eggs to come.
Now that the nests have been built, we wait for eggs! Stay tuned for additional updates on breeding season.
