At our Animal Care Center in Quincy, we're exploring how moon phases impact spawning and whether they influence reproductive behaviors, like those of our weedy seadragons and lookdowns. We're also working to replicate natural habitats that encourage these behaviors!
A full moon can trigger schooling behaviors, while a new moon offers a safer environment for fish to venture into open water! Tides also affect water levels in inland areas, where fish shelter and lay eggs.
