Meet Tortellini, the green sea turtle! 🍝 🐢
Why are we featuring Tortellini? It's National Tortellini Day!
Tortellini stranded on December 2, 2022, in Wellfleet and was officially the 451st turtle to strand in 2022. This little green sea turtle was taken to our Sea Turtle Hospital with an internal temperature of ~45.5ºF and a heart rate of zero beats per minute. To put that into perspective, sea turtles become cold-stunned at ~55ºF, so this was a very sick turtle!
Since then, Tortellini has been recovering at our hospital with many other sea turtles. Turtellini (nicknamed by our Rescue team!) spends each day eating various green veggies (like bell peppers and bok choy), interacting with enrichment, and has been observed frequently swimming under the veggie tray to scratch its shell!
