Welcome to Robbers Cave State park and the Robbers Cave Trail, located in the San Bois Mountains in south eastern Oklahoma. The trail is about 0.9 miles long and passes a cave that is rumored to have been a favored hideout for western outlaws, possibly even the infamous Jesse James. Belle Starr, who reportedly welcomed outlaws into her home, lived in a cabin just twenty miles from this location.
The trail, while short, is rugged and rocky. It is a pretty good workout for even a experienced hiker. The hike is well worth it, however, as you are rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding San Bois Mountains and pass many interesting rock formations like the Devil's Slide.
We had a fantastic time on our family hike of Robbers Cave Trail and look forward to visiting again in the future.
