Edit - So apparently the steadyview does have audio because I tried it and it works.. at least in the goggles.. IDK why. I have the steadyview x and a regular steadyview in skyzone goggles for quadversity. There is audio in the DVR and audio when I plug in headphones.. I just have to turn the volume up. The audio will cut out completely when the signal is low though.
To get decent video images with analog systems on the ground you need some kind of legit receiver. This typically just seems to be in the form of a goggles module. This Steadyview receiver came with a ground station adapter which just means I don't have to solder my own connectors to get a Power In and a Video Out. The downside is it doesn't have an Audio out for some reason.. This means I still have to use my old crap receiver to hear any audio at all. So I can use them both and get decent video out of one and barely decent audio out of the other, or take the Video Out from the receiver and run it into the cheap FPV screen (which can be worn as goggles) but not have any audio at all.
If I setup the cheap receiver to where the patch is pointing just right, the video doesn't look too bad going into that drain pipe but it will always go out completely long before I reach the same distance I went with the skyzone. There is always going to be more noise artifacts popping up during almost any kind of driving. With the more sensitive Skyzone receiver I get the impression I could maybe match or exceed some digital systems if I used one of those big 23db patches.
I can tell this setup would work very well in the air but have yet to really do a range test on the ground. So far it looks like it would be about equal to what I get from 1.3G on a good day. I suppose 1.3G still wins there because it's less expensive and also still provides the good audio. The 5.8G has the advantage of being overall smaller in every regard.
