A little-known jewel from Brazil 🇧🇷🐟 at Aquarium-Dietzenbach

Hyphessobrycon vilmae originates from the upper Arinos–Juruena system, part of the Rio Tapajós basin in Brazil. The species was scientifically described by Jacques Géry in 1966 after specimens had been collected by Harald Schultz.
In nature, this tiny tetra inhabits small creeks and Buriti palm swamps surrounded by savannah and forest. Its striking colour pattern combines a deep black lateral stripe with golden, red and subtle bluish tones – making it a real beauty despite its small size.
Interestingly, the species was named in honour of Vilma Schultz, the wife of its collector.
According to research by Chris Lukhaup, the correct name of the fish could be: Hyphessobrycon sp. aff. melanostichos "Firestripe"
