Children around the world face growing risks from Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Many of these conditions can be prevented or better managed when strong action starts early in life. Communities, schools, families, and health systems all play a central role in creating environments where children can thrive. This session highlights practical ways to support childhood health and reduce the long-term burden of NCDs.

The discussion explores city-wide strategies that place child health at the center of public planning and community engagement. It also looks at child-centric approaches that link health systems, schools, and families to address challenges such as obesity and other NCDs in childhood. Speakers share examples of supporting young people living with NCDs and improving care for type 1 diabetes in settings with limited resources.

The session also highlights how public-private partnerships can strengthen local systems through evidence-based interventions. These partnerships show how different sectors can work together to build healthier environments and ensure that all children, regardless of income or geography, have the chance to grow up healthy.

Contributions come from Katie Dain (NCD Alliance), Jeremy Farrar (WHO), Mauro Brero (UNICEF), Emmanuella Selasi Hormenoo (Diabetes Youth Care), Javier Calatrava Sánchez (Madrid Salud), and Jo Jewell (Novo Nordisk). Their insights demonstrate what is possible when all stakeholders invest in children and commit to long-term health.
