How can malaria elimination strengthen global health security and improve responses to other infectious diseases? This World Health Summit 2025 workshop examined how systemic, financial, and operational barriers continue to impede progress against malaria, particularly in regions with fragile health systems.
The session used malaria as a lens to discuss broader challenges in combating poverty-related and infectious diseases. Speakers highlighted gaps in funding, health infrastructure, and political commitment, as well as the need for greater coordination across global health and financing of development. The discussion emphasized that more integrated approaches could generate synergies across disease areas rather than competing for limited resources.
Participants explored strategies to accelerate malaria elimination, including stronger health systems, improved resource management, and more effective partnerships between governments, technical agencies, and civil society. The conversation underlined that lessons from malaria can also enhance preparedness and response capacities for other infectious diseases worldwide.
