How can lifelong learning models strengthen the global health workforce and reduce inequities? This World Health Summit 2025 workshop examined how continuous professional development can support skills, resilience, and leadership across health professions.
The session looked at how digital transformation, task-shifting, and multidisciplinary care changed the roles of nurses, doctors, midwives, and other health workers. Speakers shared experiences from academic institutions, university hospitals, and the World Health Organization Academy on how to design learning that responds to rapid change and supports safe, high-quality care.
A key focus was on how to expand access to high-quality learning opportunities in low- and middle-income countries. The discussion explored practical ways to scale out continuous professional development, including digital learning, institutional partnerships, and leadership programs that support stronger health systems and universal health coverage.
This workshop was part of the World Health Summit 2025 in Berlin and was co-hosted by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the WHS Academic Alliance, and the World Health Organization Academy.
