PLEASE READ: (lyrics below)- I love this song. After two friends dedicated vids to me using it, I wanted to give it a go too, (though I wasn't sure I had what it took to do it. lol) Theirs are awesome, be sure and check them out- XxBrlyxX and emptyvoices31 who did it to Les Miz- and thank you, Kate, for first introducing me to this song. Your own amazing PotO vid inspired me also to try my hand at it w/ Phantom, (and it only took 36+ literal hours- I stopped counting after that. lol). Lyrics follow story- mainly in Christine's POV, some in Erik's. Christine is tormented, the "choirs in her head"- her conscience, but also the urgings of those at the opera house to choose the right man. She no longer knows which side she's on- the side of safety and acceptance from others, which would result in an uncomplicated and privileged life w/ Raoul. Or the side of danger- but also passion and desire found with Erik, whom she craves. With Erik she feels alive (breath of life, heavenly touch), but to be with him means to go against everyone and lose that life above. She realizes she loves him but cannot live below in darkness. "And if you are gone, I will not belong here" - he also leaves, no longer desiring to stay in the home he'd created for them once she's gone, not feeling whole anywhere, with her gone. She finds him again, having thought him dead, starting to "hear" him again, all the old needs & fears haunting her, the memories strong, until at last she makes the choice of her heart...the "chorus so sublime" is their music & love (different from the choirs in her head saying "no"). Here's a bit of symbolism- 5 gold tinged frames at end show who she chose- "5"symbolizes them as a couple, gold a color of theirs (Box 5- his box, close to her on stage, "his spirit and her voice" melded, 5 cellars down to the home he made for them, etc). The rest of symbolism, and the end I leave up to the viewer to decide- you like tragedy? She dies and he's left with nothing but memories of a happier time. You like romance & HEA? She dies and they're reunited for eternity, their "breath of life" renewed without the sorrow. (I prefer the second. ;-) - Clips from movies, stage shows, specials, and promos. I added a few bits with a couple of other Phantoms and Christines, to my general ones of Gerard, Emmy, Ramin, Sierra, Ben and Anna. Namely, Earl Carpenter (who from what little I've seen of him I like a lot- he's getting up there with my faves) whoever E & C played in the Phantom reboot promo (?) and Gina Beck (w/ Ramin), who I was also impressed with as Christine.
