We are living in a time of polarization. We ask the question, Has it always been this way? Are we less accepting of others in these days?
For the Church of the Brethren, many feel that we also stand at a crossroads. Could it be that we are just living in the reflection of the American Culture, possibly absorbing some of the same concerns, which are polarizing us as a nation? Were not the only religious organization that is dealing with this.
Over the past decades, the Church of the Brethren has been serving Jesus by doing amazing outreach in many different forms. Disasters strike in many places and often Brethren Disaster Ministries and Child Disaster Services are there, rebuilding and providing child care to assist people rebuild their lives. Proclaiming peace and preventing war and working toward energy efficiency and renewable energy are important to the Brethren. The Global Food Initiative has raised over $8-million for community development projects in numerous countries around the world.
"Brethren Voices" met with Craig Alan Myers of the Blue River Church of the Brethren, near Columbia City, Indiana. Pastor Myers is involved with the Brethren Revival Fellowship of the Church of the Brethren and we were fortunate to have him share about the "Compelling Vision" process, which is an attempt to guide the denomination through a process of conversation and discernment to find the vision of shared commitment to live as Christ's disciples.
