The Sierra Song and Story Fest was celebrated at Camp Peaceful Pines this past year. Twenty-six years ago, the camp hosted the very first Song and Story Fest and just five years ago, a wildfire devastated the surrounding area. The camp survived, thanks to smoke-jumpers who came to the rescue. The 27th Annual Song & Story Fest, known as the Sierra Wildfire Song & Story Fest, “AFTER the FIRE,” returned to the camp nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Under the light of a billion stars, folks told stories and sang songs around the camp fire.
This edition of “Brethren Voices” shares portions of the concert of Hannah Button - Harrison who as a 7-year-old, attended the very first Song & Story Fest at Camp Peaceful Pines. The concert provides some of Hannah’s original songs, which were written while serving two years in Brethren Volunteer Service. Her projects included the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington D.C. as well as the East Belfast Mission of Northern Ireland.
Hannah’s BVS experience in Northern Ireland presented an opportunity for looking at “conflict” and possibilities of resolving conflict. Having been discussed at a “Morning Gathering” at the Fest, Hannah reflected on her own experiences in Northern Ireland.
