I do intend to get Pokémon Champions on the Switch 2 on release day, but we don’t know yet which Pokémon will be initially available. My concern for it, looking at the screenshots, is that it will be very oriented around the top competitive Pokémon. (Plus Pokémon who got Mega Evolutions.) I understand that Champions was aimed at top competitive players (the World Championships 2026 will use it instead of Scarlet and Violet), and someone like me would be in the minority, but I hope I can continue to make offbeat teams.

Opponent: うちゆい (Uchiyui)
Battle Court: Mesagoza (Central Plaza)

My Pokémon: Eugene (Klawf), Atlas (Slither Wing), Inés (Lumineon)
Opponent’s Pokémon: キュウコン (Ninetales) (Kantonian), エンテイ (Entei), オーガポン (Ogerpon) (Hearthflame)
I miscalculated for this one. I knew Ninetales would turn up first to set harsh sunlight, but I forgot that Ninetales would likely have Solar Beam. That necessitated using up my Terastallization for the match when i had planned for Slither Wing to Terastallize. Put me in a bad spot because Slither Wing is weak to Fire, and harsh sunlight reduces damage from Water type attacks. I did not think that, after seeing the damage dealt from that Solar Beam, that Klawf would’ve been able to comfortably withstand it AND activate Anger Shell. After a Trailblaze attack, that would’ve been enough to knock out all of my opponent’s Pokémon in one hit with Rock Slide, provided it doesn’t miss, maybe also keep Klawf on the field long enough for the harsh sunlight to wear off. The Anger Shell Attack boost would’ve been necessary to one-shot Entei though. That guy is sturdier than I thought.
Ironically, this meant Slither Wing, despite the type disadvantage, was the one to defeat two of my opponent’s Pokémon.
My opponent, by the way, was using an all-Fire team. To my knowledge, they do all have the common Fire weaknesses of Water, Rock, and Ground, though Drought helps mitigate Water.
Speaking of harsh sunlight, the forecast for my area has been 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit this whole week (or about 36 to 38 degrees Celsius). Apparently, much of the rest of North America is facing an unusually cold March 2026. It always seems to be like this, where if the north, east, and Great Lakes areas are cold, we’re hot, and vice versa. Heat has to go somewhere though.
