Are you getting sick of seeing Igglybuff and Darkrai sleep decks wearing away at your Pokémon as they sleep their way towards their doom? This was my response to that: I planned on making this deck when Slaking came out in Fantastical Parade, but I figure now is a better time to introduce it, endowing you with immunity to Sleep that will help you in two different ways:

POKÉMON (8)
2x Slakoth (Fantastical Parade)
2x Slaking (Fantastical Parade)
2x Comfey (Celestial Guardians)
1x Pichu (Wisdom of Sea and Sky)*
1x Mantyke (Secluded Spring)*

TRAINERS (12)
2x Copycat
1x Lillie
1x Lyra
1x May
2x Poké Ball
2x Professor’s Research
2x Rare Candy
1x Sabrina

Energy Zone: Psychic
* You can use any two Basic Pokémon that adds extra Energy, as Slaking runs entirely on Colorless. In addition to these two, you may also use Magby, Orthworm, two of the same of the above.

Though with the optimal setup against such a deck, the Baby Pokémon would quickly fall, after the first turn, Comfey will start granting protection from Sleep, reducing Igglybuff’s attack to a simple 10 damage and Darkrai’s Bad Dreams completely ineffectual, because Comfey’s Ability, “Flower Shield,” blocks all status conditions done to any Pokémon with Psychic Energy attached. It also prevents Slaking’s own negative Ability from taking effect, “Snoozing Habit,” which normally puts it to Sleep if you attach an Energy to it while it’s in the Active Spot. This is quite problematic as its attack, Knuckle Sandwich, discards an Energy off of it, requiring you to replenish the Energy, but if it can’t be put to Sleep, you eliminate all coin flips or turns lost due to it.

At 150 damage, Knuckle Sandwich one-hit KOs any two-point Basic Pokémon ex and anything that isn’t a Pokémon ex, most notably Hydreigon.

Because this deck lacks Vigoroth though (earlier versions had it), Chingling may be problematic due to blocking Rare Candy. You will need to attack with Comfey to remove Chingling, which in turn puts it in a vulnerable spot to get Knocked Out. This is part of why there are two Comfey in there, the other reason being that it is very important to this deck working as intended. Because I lose an Energy each time I use Knuckle Sandwich, I also have to dedicate my Energy attachment towards replenishing the Energy lost, meaning I cannot power my Bench, and Slaking will have to win the battle on its own.

My opponent was using a Mega Altaria ex deck. This is a variant that uses Aegislash from Mega Rising; it’s high-risk, high-reward in that as a Stage 2, it is hard to bring out, but it boosts Mega Altaria ex’s Mega Harmony attack with a full bench from 130 damage to 160 via its Ability, “Cursed Metal,” crossing a lot of damage thresholds to one-hit KO a lot of Pokémon it ordinarily cannot. Slaking is one of them, so I could not allow Aegislash and Altaria to be in play at the same time. The battle was short, but I could only get out a single Slaking (and could not even find my second Slakoth), so if Slaking went down, the battle would be lost.
