We’re into the one-year anniversary of Mario Kart World; it happened on Thursday this past week: June 5th, 2026. No major updates, but there is an vent going on where you pick a character and play a bunch of normal races in a special room set aside, and they’ll announce who the highest-ranked player is for each character. It goes from June 5th to June 12th, 2026, and the room code is 6500 (from “6.5,” or how “June 5th” is written in Japanese.)

Me, I don’t have a main in a normal sense, so I’ll just pick a character. Any recommendations? I plan for that one to be the next Mario Kart World video. These are just races and battles outside of that special room.

00:00 - Rally #1
Cloud Rally: Airship Fortress, Shy Guy Bazaar, Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Faraway Oasis, Great ? Block Ruins
Character: Fish Bones
As you can see, despite me getting a Star and bringing it to a top spot, I almost didn’t make it through the Shy Guy Bazaar checkpoint. It is hard to dodge Mega Mushroom users as they tend to be very aggressive. I’m the unusual one for using Mega Mushrooms for defense and for shortcuts rather than an attacking item, but it did bring me up to 4th overall going through every checkpoint after that. This is a very hard group to overtake though, even taking huge offroad shortcuts!

09:35 - Rally #2
Ice Rally: Sky-High Sundae, Starview Peak, Dandelion Depths, Cheep Cheep Falls, Peach Stadium, Crown City (Variant 1)
Character: Donkey Kong
I saw a lot of Spiny Shells being thrown this time around, some of them striking me and some of them not, but maybe that’s because I was at or near the front for around the second and third quarters of this Knockout Tour. I got hit shortly after passing through the Crown City checkpoint though, and I was not able to catch up to the others after misguessing the boosting strength of the hamburger I would receive from Yoshi’s.

18:23 - Race #1
150cc
Whistlestop Summit to DK Spaceport
Character: Luigi
Music: Shy Guy Falls
I had fallen behind along the route to get to DK Spaceport, though I was able to somehow catch up to 5th with a Mega Mushroom in tow. I think this room was just tightly packed and aggressive, and driving while avoiding getting hit (which I attribute to luck) was enough to take me up 7 or 8 spots as opponents were hitting each other and slowing each other down.

22:03 - Race #2
150cc
Koopa Troopa Beach
Character: King Boo (Aristocrat)
Music:
I misjudged the final turn of this race, squandering the Golden Mushroom, which would have been a super-good item on this course. Then again, I did get hit at an untimely point, which higher VR racers are really good at timing.

24:17 - Race #3
150cc
Acorn Heights to Dandelion Depths
Character: Waluigi
Music: Main Theme (Mario Kart 7)
I seem to have forgotten the timing for that alternate path along the lilies at the end of the lap. As you can see though, I also fell ridiculously far behind as my Item Boxes were taken by other racers and I got hit a lot. This does mean, however, I was able to avoid TWO Lightning Bolts in this race, one by being dead last and the other through a Bullet Bill.

28:38 - Race #4
150cc
Great ? Block Ruins to Salty Salty Speedway
Character: Goomba
Music: Moo Moo Farm
That inside path on the final turn counts for a lot, it seems! The hard part is staying on it considering how narrow it is. I’ve also seen people land on the grind rail on the absolute inside turn and time the jump across the gap before it turns again, but I’ve never done that, not even in Free Roam. Kind of surprised I lost so many spots to that little patch of grass shortly before actually entering the town though.

31:29 - Battle #1
Balloon Battle
Peach Stadium
Character: Chargin’ Chuck
After Dino Dino Jungle, I would say that Peach Stadium is the second most dangerous Balloon Battle course. It’s far larger than Dino Dino Jungle, but it’s also very open, meaning you’re rarely out of range of someone, but they’re rarelyout of range of you. You can see how I had already gotten hit twice in the first 30 seconds before I could even score a point. I kind of needed that Balloon from that Swoop player (touching another player during a Cape Feather jump steals a Balloon from them).

35:17 - Battle #2
Balloon Battle
Mario Bros. Circuit
Character: Dry Bones
On the other hand, Mario Bros. Circuit is so wide open and large that you have to actively look for other players to find them. Also, I had to be careful not to fall in the hole within the full-circle turn. I learned later on that that’s out of bounds.

39:04 - Battle #3
Bob-omb Blast
Big Donut
Character: Baby Rosalina (Pro Racer)
I got another Bob-omb Blast match. You can see that you begin with six Balloons, but in this match, I needed all six because I ended with just one. I apparently gains two points at about 11 seconds left? Did I hit two people?
