The Rival has a total of seven teams, six of whom that you most likely won’t see, since I am using a registered team.

If you put a team in, save them as registered, then transferpack wise, you face perhaps the easiest team of the rival. If you are stuck using rentals, the team will be a bit tough, but it doesn’t change at all in round 2 apart from the stats.
Now, I will talk about the first third, then the starters.
Dodrio, Magneton, Alakazam, Exeggutor, arcanine, and gyarados.
He has a dodrio instead of a Pidgeot, since the developers realized in practice, pidgeot fares rather poorly compared to fearow, and fearow is utterly elipsed by both stats and movepool of dodrio.
Dodrio has Drill Peck and Tri attack in Round 1, and body slam replacing tri attack in round 2.
Magneton replaces Rhydon, so that instead of easily being KO’d by water or grass types, it will be easily walled by rock/grounds. He’ll switch most likely, and thunder wave and thunderbolt are moves to watch out for.
Now, alakazam is the reason why he is going to be really hard in round 1. You could get lucky and not face it, but if you aren’t, be ready for not only recover, but for psychic, unlike Sabrina, who had psybeam and dig. For this particular round, he will also have seismic toss, making almost impossible to wall, and unusually enough, flash, instead of kinesis (though both moves suck, being very rng based). Anyway, watch out for this alakazam, and keep fighting and poison types off the team, and bring in a good physical attacker.
The above three are present in all 3 battles. The next three, however, can be replaced by one of the starters, depending on what you chose. We’ll talk about them now:
Arcanine: One of the easiest of the 3, being a fire type with a limited movepool. It has hyper beam, which can be detrimental to it, flamethrower, though it won’t hurt as much as his teammates, dig, which also can help you predict, and body slam, which is honestly its most dangerous move, solely on paralyze hax. Nothing more can be said about it, water types and rock/grounds beat this, and even normal types with earthquake beats this. Those big base stats mean nothing.
Gyarados: A bit more dangerous than arcanine, but not as powerful as lapras. Its coverage is strong though, with ice beam and thunder, so worry about hax, and hydro pump and strength. Electric types or an electric type move can beat it. If you beat lapras, or lance’s gyarados, you can beat this one too. Round 2 has body slam instead of strength though.
Exeggutor: While it is the most dangerous of the three, as it hits the hardest and is the hardest to kill, it can actually give you a lot of opportunities to kill it, though not as much as the default team exeggutor. It has mega drain instead of solarbeam, so water types aren’t safe from this. He does try to use the overhyped toxic/leech seed combo, but you can defeat this by switching. Chansey beats this reliably, but most other counters will not enjoy taking a psychic. The default exeggutor doesn’t have psychic for some reason, but his transfer pack team always does, so beware.
Now for the Starters:
Venusaur: Has solarbeam for some reason, and can be completely walled by anything that resists grass. Sleep powder is annoying, but his moveset isn’t so hot otherwise. Growth, solarbeam, and razor leaf are all it has in round 1. It’s a bit nastier in round 2, with mega drain, but fortunately, no sleep powder. Its not as nasty as exeggutor, so this is perhaps the easiest of the team if you chose squirtle.
Charizard: Another fire spinning charizard, relying on rng to be annoying. Switch often if you must, though a gengar should handle this easily. Its other moves are slash and flamethrower. Don’t lose to this charizard, because not only do rock grounds and water types beat this, but electric types and gengar beats this too. A bit harder if you chose bulbasaur.
Blastoise: This is the most dangerous of the starters, as its movepool is actually quite good. Its got unresisted coverage, with Hydro Pump, ice beam, and earthquake, with strength as filler. Round 2 has surf instead of hydro pump, and the more dangerous body slam instead of strength. Electrics do beat this, but they must be cautious, as it has earthquake. By far the hardest of the three if you chose charmander (he always gets the short end doesn’t he?)
