Dust counter top with some flour and add the dough ball, roll out into a rectangular shape. About ¼ - inch thick, the same as if you are making jelly rolls.
Then spread the cooled onion mixture over the rolled out dough. Then roll outward like a jelly roll.
After cut the roll in ½ to 1- inch slices and place into a 8-inch baking pan lined with parchment paper or butter. Place each piece side by side and the end pieces facing down in the pan.
In a small bowl beat together a egg, milk and a pinch of sea salt. Pour or brush this mixture over the rolls.
Then preheat the oven to 400ºf and baking the pinwheel onion rolls for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with a hot meal.
Bonita’s Tips:
Fry the onions up first so it will be cold enough to spread over the dough.
Make the dough using butter or margarine if you don’t have shortening.
