Perkeso says fraud cases are becoming more complex, with company executives, doctors and middlemen allegedly working together to submit false claims.
Some syndicates use shell companies, ghost workers, falsified payroll records and forged medical documents to obtain government assistance.
Perkeso said red flags include sudden spikes in employee registrations, people being paid to “borrow” their MyKad and suspicious medical records or accident claims.
Claims flagged by its fraud-detection system are investigated by its Anti-Fraud, Ethics and Integrity Division, with probes taking weeks or months depending on their complexity.
Perkeso is pushing for greater digital integration and information-sharing between healthcare providers and government agencies to strengthen fraud detection.
Through joint operations with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, more than 1,600 companies have been flagged, preventing RM61 million in wrongful payouts and leading to more than 100 arrests and charges.
