Pahang’s 210‑kilometre coastline across Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin is steadily being reshaped by the South China Sea, with strong waves eroding beaches, damaging homes and threatening roads and infrastructure.

At least 10 locations have been hit, including Pantai Cherating, Teluk Chempedak, Pantai Balok and Kuala Rompin. The Sultan of Pahang warned last year that erosion at Padang Api‑Api could swallow the main Pekan‑Nenasi road within five years if no action is taken.

The state has sought RM4 million for immediate works and RM850 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan for long‑term mitigation. Coastal erosion has already claimed the Summerset Resort in Rompin, which closed after severe shoreline damage.

Authorities say revetments and beach nourishment are urgently needed to protect communities and safeguard Pahang’s coastline.
