A fabric-processing factory owner suffered first-degree burns to his hands and neck while trying to put out a fire that destroyed about 80 per cent of his premises in Jalan Bagan Ajam yesterday.

The 58-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The fire also damaged two motorcycles, a four-tonne lorry and a forklift.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director John Sagun Francis said the blaze was brought under control within minutes but took almost 10 hours to extinguish completely.
