Penang schools are ready to activate home-based learning (PdPR) if worsening haze pushes the Air Pollutant Index (API) to 200, says the state Education Department.

Penang Education Department director Mohamad Dziauddin Mat Saad said preparations were under way, but PdPR had not been activated as current readings remained below the threshold.

He said schools would halt outdoor activities when the API reached 100, while pupils would not be required to attend school and PdPR would be implemented when the reading hit 200.

He said this after inspecting haze preparedness at SK Bukit Gelugor today.

Mohamad Dziauddin said the department would assess the situation the previous evening, usually around 6pm or 8pm, based on API readings and wind movements before deciding on further action.
